The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for operating the county jail. The Guernsey County Jail is a 66 bed full service jail located in the Guernsey County Law Enforcement Center. Built in 1994 the jail serves as a booking facility for all law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction within Guernsey County. Inmates housed in the Guernsey County Jail have been convicted of murder, rape, driving under the influence, domestic violence, drug trafficking, theft, assault, probation violation, non-payment of child support and failure to appear for court. In 2006 the average daily jail population was 77.7 inmates. The jail staff received and booked in 2,083 inmates. Of the bookings, 1,630 were males and 453, female.
