The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division consists of a group of highly trained investigators. While larger agencies can afford to have units of officers specialized in different crimes, the detectives in our division have to be skilled in all areas. They attend many schools and seminars each year to keep abreast on the latest investigative techniques on everything from lifting fingerprints to collecting specimens for DNA analysis.
As with most law enforcement agencies, our detectives carry a heavy caseload. In spite of this, they review all cases that come across their desks. The Investigations Division is responsible for the investigation of all major crimes, such as murder, robbery, sex crimes, burglary, child abuse, felony thefts, and serious assaults. This division also investigates any other crimes that warrant an in-depth investigation as determined on a case by case basis.
It is the responsibility of the Investigations Division to identify and interview witnesses and suspects, gather evidence and prepare cases for criminal prosecution. Investigators also serve subpoenas for the courts, process evidence; participate in countywide task force operations in addition to providing support to the patrol division.
