Quaker City Man Sentenced for March Murder

Sheriff Jeffrey Paden announced that Dalton John Leach, age 33, of Quaker City, was sentenced in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court on Monday morning, June 24, 2024. Leach had been charged with Murder back in March of this year after deputies and a family member had found Maureen Ramey, age 55, of Anderson Road, Quaker City, deceased inside of her home on Friday morning, March 15, 2024, shortly before 11:00 a.m.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office and crime scene agents from the Ohio Attorney General’s BCI section were summoned to the scene. An autopsy conducted at the Licking County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Ms. Ramey had died from a single gunshot wound to her back. Leach, the live-in boyfriend of Ms. Ramey, was identified as a suspect and was arrested later that day while playing a game at an Indianapolis area Casino in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Leach pled Guilty to Murder, a felony of the first degree, and Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, a felony of the fourth degree, and was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Daniel G. Padden to 16 ½ years to life in prison. Leach was remanded into the custody of the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office and transported back to the county jail.
