Sheriff Paden Looks After Families of Inmates During Pandemic Crisis

The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office is proud to offer the community a new service to help area families during this pandemic crisis. With Covid-19 still a major concern for families, whether it be the disease itself, or the financial hardships that it may bring to families, the Guernsey County Jail is now offering video visitation through Securus Technologies.

“This service is now fully operational and aims to help keep families connected during the pandemic,” states Lt. Jim Stoney, who is in charge of the Corrections Division in the Jail. “Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden was adamant that we bring this service to Guernsey County to help keep families safe, with the added convenience of staying in your home to speak with your family members.”

The jail, which currently holds 91 inmates, put visitations on hold at the beginning of the pandemic last year, for the safety of Corrections staff, the inmates and their families. Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden says “the Securus app allows the families of our inmates to visit with their loved ones without spending money on a babysitter, or trying to find a ride. Families don’t have to sit in the lobby at the Sheriff’s Office anymore, they can download the new app, create an account, and visit with their family in their own homes. These inmates can now stay connected to their kids, friends and families, for special occasions and important life events, wherever they may be.”

To access this new system you can visit www.GuernseySheriff.com and watch instructional videos or download the Securus Technologies Video Connect app and create an account. Lt. Stoney explains that the Corrections Officers will have to approve the scheduled visit, and will continually monitor the visitations to prevent inappropriate behavior; violation of these rules can prompt visitation suspension or termination of visitation rights.

Securus Video Connect, not only helps the area families of inmates, but helps the jail as well. For a 20-minute session, the inmate is charged $12.99 plus tax, the jail gets a portion of that fee, which helps offset costs within the jail and better utilize taxpayer dollars for other projects.
