Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Narcotics

         

Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden announces that on March 27th, 2024 during the evening hours Deputies with the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office Road Division initiated a traffic stop on a truck traveling east on John Glenn Highway in Cambridge. Throughout the traffic stop investigation and with the assistance of a K9 from Cambridge Police Department, 39 year old Jammie Benson of Cumberland, Ohio was taken into custody. Detectives with the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division/ Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force (CODE) assisted in the investigation where suspected methamphetamine was located and seized.

            The investigation led Detectives to a Cambridge hotel room where Benson was staying and a search warrant was executed. This lead to the discovery of a large amount of suspected methamphetamine and multiple items designed for the packaging, transportation, and sale of narcotics.

            On the 28th of March Guernsey County Jail Corrections Officers found and recovered an additional amount of suspected methamphetamine that Benson was attempting to conceal. In total over 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine was taken off the street throughout the investigation.

Benson has formally been charged by Investigators on the following charges:

Aggravated Possession of Drugs- F2

Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs- F2

Aggravated Possession of Drugs- F3

Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs- F3

Illegal Conveyance of Drugs- F3

            Sheriff Jeffrey D. Paden states that this is a prime example of combining efforts to hinder the flow of narcotics throughout Guernsey County. It has been and will continue to be a focus of the Guernsey County Sheriff’s office to combat the drug epidemic.
